Better dead than red was an anti-communist slogan used primarily by the western bloc during the Cold War. The slogan was likely coined by Nazi propagandist Dr. Joseph Goebbels in April 1945, who uttered the phrase Lieber rot als tot (EN: better dead than red) on Radio Werewolf.
