While in the boy scouts of america, a friend recommended i read the communist manifesto — it made more sense than anything else i had ever heard about society, and so i became a communist and have been studying marxism and participating in The Movement ever since. In college i joined/helped found a chapter of students for a democratic society, where we studied the proletarian science of marxism and organized around police brutality, state education funding, and other issues. Currently i am a graduate student of economics at umass amherst, and my research is on the economic theories of workers cooperatives. The main theorists i've read are marx, wolff and resnick, althusser, and the rethinking marxism journal; i'm also familiar with the debates about workers cooperatives, the transformation problem, value, and the epistemological overdetermination/complex contradiction-type stuff.
