Jonas Noreika (8 October 1910 – 26 February 1947) was a Lithuanian Nazi collaborator, partisan, and an active participant in the Holocaust. As governor of the Šiauliai District, he oversaw the massacre of 1,800 Jews in the Plungė massacre. Although venerated as a hero in Lithuania to this day (with him having been awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Cross of Vytis in 1997), the truth about Noreika's legacy was brought to light in part by his own granddaughter, Silvia Foti.[1]
