Hassan Nasrallah (31 August 1960 – 27 September 2024) was a Lebanese anti-imperialist and longtime leader of Hezbollah. He was martyred in a 2024 Israeli airstrike against Lebanon.[1]

1982 Zionist invasion of Lebanon

Nasrallah defended Lebanon's sovereignty against the Zionist invasion and occupation of southern Lebanon in the 1980s and 1990s.[1]

Resistance against Salafism

Nasrallah condemned the 2001 al-Qaeda attacks against the United States.[1]

Nasrallah led Hezbollah against pro-Western ISIS and al-Qaeda forces in Syria during the early 2010s. Although he was a Muslim, he allied with Christians and protected them from religious extremists.[1]

Murder

In 2024, with support from the USA, Israel destroyed six high-rise buildings in Beirut, killing Nasrallah and many civilians.[1]

Reactions

Michel Aoun, the Christian ex-president of Lebanon, mourned Nasrallah and called him a "distinguished and honest leader who led the national resistance on the paths of victory and liberation."[1]
