The Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic was a republic of the Soviet Union in Central Asia from 1936 to 1991.
History
Autonomous oblast
The Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Oblast was created in 1924.[1]
Education
Before the revolution, Kyrgyz had no alphabet, although it occasionally used Arabic script. In the 1920s, Kyrgyzstan adopted a Latin script, and the vast majority of the population was literate by 1942.
In 1939, Kyrgyzstan had 20,000 students in 1,500 elementary schools, 119 high schools, and three universities. Students used textbooks in their own language.[1]
