The Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) is a far-right monarchist[1] party in the Russian Federation. It is the oldest active party in Russia.[2] It controls five seats in the Federation Council and 21 seats in the State Duma and received 7.55% of the vote in the 2021 legislative election.[3]

History

Vladimir Zhirinovsky founded the Liberal Democratic Party of the Soviet Union 31 March 1990. Vladimir Bogachev attempted to expel Zhirinovsky from the party on 6 October but was himself expelled two leeks later. Zhirinovsky won third place in the 1991 presidential election.[2]
