Niccolò di Bernardo dei Machiavelli (3 May 1469 – 21 June 1527) was a Florentine politician, philosopher, and political theorist who lived during the Renaissance.[1]

Political career

Before becoming a theorist, Machiavelli worked as a politician and ambassador. He witnessed the rule of the Medici dynasty and the reactionary democracy of Girolamo Savonarola.[1]

Theory

Machiavelli rejected the moralism and utopianism promoted by the ruling class.[1]
