Sexism is discrimination or oppression based on gender or sex. Like racism, it is rooted in private property and class society. Sexism allows capitalists to make higher profits by paying female workers less and divides the proletariat.[1]

History

In primitive communal societies, bloodlines were traced through the mother in a system called the "mother right" and sexism did not exist. According to Engels, property-owning men overthrew the mother right at the beginning of class society and began to treat women as their property.[1]
