Appeal to Reason was an influential Statesian socialist newspaper that ran from 1895 to 1922. During its heyday it had more than 750,000 weekly subscribers all across the United States. By 1910 there were more than half a million copies of Appeal to Reason in circulation, making it the largest socialist newspaper in American History.

History

First produced by Julius A. Wayland in Kansas City August 31, 1895, Appeal to Reason was a four-page socialist weekly. Less than 2 years later Wayland paper to the southeast Kansas coal-mining town of Girard.
