Collaborationism refers strictly to collaboration (voluntary or involuntary) with an enemy against one's own country or people during times of war or occupation. A person who works with the enemy is called a collaborator, while a person who actively promotes the victory of the enemy is known as a collaborationist.
Collaborationism differs from cooperation between governments or organisations which aren't in an active state of armed conflict. Negotiations between two opposing sides (e.g. ceasefire deals or prisoner exchanges) are also not considered examples of collaborationism.
Collaborationism is considered a form of treason and is often punishable by death or imprisonment.
