Francis Scott Key (1 August 1779 – 11 January 1843) was a Statesian lawyer and poet from Maryland who served as the 4th District Attorney of D.C. from 1833 to 1841 under President Andrew Jackson. He's known today for writing the lyrics of "The Star-Spangled Banner," the national anthem of the United States, the tune of which was stolen from John Stafford Smith's "The Anacreontic Song."
