The Free German Youth (German: Freie Deutsche Jugend), abbreviated FDJ, is a Communist German youth organisation founded in 1946. It was the official youth wing of the Socialist Unity Party prior to the party's dissolution in 1989. 75% of youth in the GDR were members.[1]
