The Old democratic revolution, was a bourgeois-democratic revolution which that took place between October 1911 and February 1912 in the Qing-controlled Chinese empire. The old democratic revolutionary period lasted from 1840, the beginning of the first opium war, until 1919 where the May 4th Movement marked the beginner of the new democratic revolution.

Together the old democratic revolution and the new democratic revolution can be collectively referred to as the "Chinese revolution".
