The problem with this is that it is entirely possible to survive a gunshot to the head, and given the bullet trajectory, it doesn't surprise me that he ''did'' survive the first bullet.  The Los Angeles Times article (which the ProleWiki article cites as a source for the "multiple bullet wounds" claim) has this to say:
