Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini (29 July 1883 – 28 April 1945) was the fascist dictator of Italy from 1922 to 1943.
Early life[edit | edit source]
Mussolini was a member of the Italian Socialist Party until being expelled in 1914 for supporting the First World War. In November 1914, he founded the right-wing newspaper Il Popolo d'Italia. In 1919, Mussolini's fascists burned down the headquarters of the PSI's newspaper and killed three socialists.[1]
Rule[edit | edit source]
Mussolini and his supporters marched on Rome on 28 October 1922 without resistance from the state or military. The next day, King Victor Emmanuel appointed him as prime minister.[1]
