'''Isaakiy Semyonovich Solzhenitsyn''' was an officer of the [[Imperial Russian Army]] and veteran of the [[First World War]].  He was the son of [[Semyon Efimovich Solzhenitsyn]], a shepherd, and [[Pelageya Pankratievna Solzhenitsyna]].  Solzhenitsyn volunteered in 1914 to fight the Germans, and was awarded the [[Cross of St. George]] for dragging away munition boxes that had caught on fire.  He married [[Taisiya Solzhenitsyna]], née Shcherbak, in Belarus in 1917.  In February 1918, shortly before the [[Treaty of Brest-Litovsk]], Solzhenitsyn was dismissed from the Army.  Solzhenitsyn died in the hospital following a hunting accident in June 1918, six months before his son [[Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn]] was born.
