Łódź (German Lodsch, 1940–45 Litzmannstadt; Yiddish לאָדזש) is the fourth-largest city in Poland. It is the capital of the Łódź Voivodeship and is located in the centre of the country, southwest of Warsaw. Łódź served as the de facto capital of the Polish People's Republic from 1945 to 1948.
