Lazar Moiseyevich Kaganovich (22 November 1893 - 25 July 1991) was a Soviet politician and the last-living Old Bolshevik, who died a mere five months before the overthrow of the Soviet Union in July 1991.

Political career[edit | edit source]

During the October Revolution, the Central Committee assigned Kaganovich along with many other Bolsheviks to direct the revolution in the countryside.[1]

During the Russian Civil War, Kaganovich led the struggle against anti-communist forces in Central Asia.[2]
