Juan Chávez Alonso (Spanish pronunciation: [xwaŋˈ ˈtʃaβes]; 3 January 1941 — 2 June 2012), better known as Juan Chávez, was a Purépecha indigenous leader, political activist, peasant and musician. He was part of the EZLN, which participated in the dialogue of San Andrés Sacamch'én de los Pobres, in the first dialogue table between the EZLN and the federal government, regarding indigenous rights and culture, from April 1995 to February 1996.[1]
