Document leaks
While working as an intelligence analyst in the Iraq War, Manning leaked over 750,000 documents to WikiLeaks, including documents exposing U.S. war crimes in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, and Somalia and torture at Guantánamo Bay.[1]
Imprisonment
Manning was arrested in 2010 and held in solitary confinement for almost a year before her trial. In 2013, she was sentenced to 35 years in prison. President Obama commuted her sentence in 2017, but she was imprisoned again in 2019 after refusing to testify against Julian Assange.[1]
