Jawaharlal Nehru (14 November 1889 – 27 May 1964) was an anti-colonial Indian politician and independence activist who served as India's first prime minister from 1947 to 1964.

Nehru admired the Soviet Union when he visited it in 1927 and noted that the material conditions of India were similar to those of pre-revolutionary Russia.[1] In 1954, he called for a ban on testing nuclear weapons.[2]
Prime Minister[edit | edit source]
Despite his earlier support for the Soviet Union, Nehru removed a Communist government from power in Kerala.[3]
