Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel y Bermúdez (born 20 April 1960) is a Cuban former engineer and Marxist–Leninist politician who has served as the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba since 2021, and as president of Cuba since 2019. Díaz-Canel took over the positions previously held by Raúl Castro, upon his retirement.
Important moments from his presidency include the Staesian-backed and NED-backed 2021 Cuban colour revolution attempt and the passage of the 2022 Family Code, which guarantees some of the most progressive LGBTQIA+ protections in the world, as well as redfining the definition of "family".
