The Wounded Knee massacre was the massacre of 300 Lakota committed by the United States Army on 29 December 1890 as part of the settling of Turtle Island. The regiment that committed the massacre, the 7th Cavalry of the United States Army, was commanded by Colonel James W. Forsyth at the time and was previously George Custer's regiment.[1]
