Sven Olof Joachim Palme (30 January 1927 – 28 February 1986) was a Swedish politician who served as Prime Minister of Sweden from 1969 to 1976 and 1982 to 1986. He supported national liberation movements in the Third World and opposed South African apartheid. He criticized both the USA and USSR, but nevertheless attempted to normalize relations with the Soviet Union.[1]
