Lazar Moiseyevich Kaganovich was a Soviet politician and the last-living Old Bolshevik, who died a mere five months before the overthrow of the Soviet Union in July 1991.
Political career
During the October Revolution, the Central Committee assigned Kaganovich along with many other Bolsheviks to direct the revolution in the countryside.[1]
During the Russian Civil War, Kaganovich led the struggle against anti-communist forces in Central Asia.[2]
