The New Jewel Movement (NJM; New Joint Endeavor for Welfare, Education, and Liberation) was the Marxist-Leninist vanguard party of the People's Revolutionary Government of Grenada. It was led by Comrade Maurice Bishop. The party gained power in a bloodless coup on March 13, 1979. Bishop was assassinated in October 1983, leading to turmoil on the island, resulting in the United States intervening; the party was disbanded soon after.
