Dianne Goldman Berman Feinstein (June 22, 1933 – September 29, 2023) was a Statesian senator from California who served as Speaker of the House of Representatives until her death in 2023. She had a net worth of $69.4 million. She was on the right wing of the Democratic Party in both foreign and domestic policy.[1]
Early life[edit | edit source]
Feinstein was born in 1933 in San Francisco. Her father, Leon Goldman, was a surgeon, and her mother, Betty Goldman, was a model. Feinstein attended a private Catholic high school and graduated from Stanford in 1955.[1]
State political career[edit | edit source]
California governor Pat Brown appointed Feinstein to the California Women's Parole Board in 1960 and served until 1966. She was on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from 1969 to 1978.
In 1978, Feinstein became Mayor of San Francisco after the assassination of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk. Feinstein was reelected on a right-wing, pro-police platform. She ran for governor in 1990 and lost by 200,000 votes but was elected to the Senate in 1992.[1]
Senate career[edit | edit source]
Feinstein was a member of the Senate for almost 31 years and voted in favor of the bombing of Yugoslavia, invasion of Iraq, and NATO war against Russia. She chaired the Senates Rules Committee from 2007 to 2009 and the Select Committee on Intelligence from 2009 to 2015. In 2017, she became the highest-ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee.[1]
