Dimitris Koutsoumpas is the General Secretary of the KKE.[3]

Political Career[edit | edit source]

In 1987, he was elected into the party's Central Committee and in 1996 to the party's Politburo. He also became the director of Rizospastis that same year.

He got elected as General Secretary in the 19th Party Congress on 14 April 2013, succeeding Aleka Papariga.[4]

During his tenure as General Secretary, KKE has voted against the Cohabitation Agreement in 2015 and is planning to vote against the Homosexual Marriage agreement as well.[5][6]
