• Irish rebels are defeated at the Battle of Vinegar Hill during the Irish Rebellion of 1798. As many as 1200 rebels are killed.

• Filipino Communist revolutionary Luis Taruc is born.

• During the Winniped general strike, Canadian police fire on a crowd of protesting war veterans, murdering two.

1921

Knockcroghery after it was burned down.

• After Colonel Commandant Thomas Lambert is ambushed and killed by the Irish Volunteers in Knockcroghrey, the Black and Tans British military force burns the town.

1964

• Three Statsian civil rights workers with the Congress of Racial Equality are murdered by the Ku Klux Klan in Mississippi.
