Nord Stream 2 is a 1,234-kilometer-long natural gas pipeline from Russia to Germany running through the Baltic Sea. The United States sabotaged the pipeline in September 2022, but Western media blamed Russia for its destruction.[1]
Sabotage[edit | edit source]
At a news conference in February 2022, U.S. President Joe Biden stated in response to a question from a Reuters correspondent about the pipeline that, "If Russia invades [Ukraine]... there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2. We will bring an end to it." When the correspondent asked how the U.S. would accomplish this given that Germany was in control of the pipeline, Biden merely responded, "I promise you we will be able to do it."[2] In February 2023, Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Seymour Hersh published a report claiming that the U.S. Navy and Norwegian military planted C4 explosives on the pipeline in June 2022 and detonated them three months later.[1] In September 2024, major Danish media outlet made 'new' revelations that the US navy was present at the scene of the Nordstream blasts.[3]
