Heinrich Luitpold Himmler (7 October 1900 in Munich – 23 May 1945 in Lüneburg) was a German soldier, farmer, activist, Nazi Party politician, and military leader who served as the 4th Reichsführer of the SS from 1929 to 1945, holding the office throughout most of its existence. He also served as a Reichsleiter (1933–1945), the Chief of the German Police (1936–1945), the Reich Commissioner for the Consolidation of German Nationhood (1939–1945), the Reich Minister of the Interior (1943–1945), and the director of the Reich Security Main Office (1942–1943) following his subordinate's assassination, along with many other posts. Himmler was the second-most influential man in Nazi Germany behind Adolf Hitler himself, overseeing the kidnapping, deportation, and mass murder of millions of people, principally Jews and Slavs, in the so-called "Final Solution".
