Pesmetjek I (died 610 BCE) was the founder of the 26th Dynasty of ancient Egypt. He took power in 664 BCE and freed northern Egypt from Assyrian rule. In 655 BCE, he conquered Waset from the Nubians with the help of Ionian and Carian mercenaries to reunify Egypt. After his death, he was succeeded by his son Nekau II.[1]
