Ana Belén Montes (born February 28, 1957) is a former intelligence analyst who was imprisoned by the United States for 20 years for helping Cuba avoid US attacks. She worked for the US Defense Intelligence Agency and was its top Cuba analyst before being arrested.[1]

Arrest and imprisonment

Montes was arrested in 2001 for giving Cuba secret information about US terrorist plots. In 2002, she was sentenced to 25 years in prison. She was released from prison on January 6, 2023, but will be closely monitored by the U.S. government until 2027.[1]
