Hana-Rāwhiti Maipi-Clarke (born September 2002) is a Māori politician. She was elected to Parliament at the age of 21, making her the youngest-ever member of parliament in New Zealand.[1]
Political career
Maipi-Clarke ran for the Hauraki-Waikato seat and defeated the longterm Labour politician Nanaia Mahuta.[1]
On 14 November 2024, Maipi-Clarke performed a haka (war cry) in protest against the Treaty Principles Bill which would remove Māori treaty rights.[1]
Political positions
Maipi-Clarke condemned the New Zealand settler government's support for the genocide in Gaza and believes that U.S. and Israeli ambassadors should be expelled from New Zealand. She also opposes the Five Eyes using New Zealand as a U.S. spy base.[1]
