The New Jewel Movement (NJM; New Joint Endeavor for Welfare, Education, and Liberation) was the Marxist–Leninist vanguard party of the People's Revolutionary Government of Grenada. It was led by Comrade Maurice Bishop. The party gained power in a bloodless coup on March 13, 1979. Bishop was assassinated in October 1983, leading to turmoil on the island, resulting in the United States intervening; the party was disbanded soon after.
