Up and Out of Poverty is a book of speeches and articles by now Chinese President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, Xi Jinping, published in 1992, and then re-published in 2014. It has since been published in a number of languages, including Chinese, English, Spanish, French, and Hausa.[1]

It covers the period from September 1988 until May 1990, when Xi was the party chief of Ningde Prefecture in east China's Fujian Province.[2] It discusses poverty alleviation efforts in the countryside that later proved successful. Since the period of Reform and Opening Up, China has lifted over 800 million people out of extreme poverty, accounting for three-quarters of total global poverty reduction.[3]
