The Ghost Dance was an anti-colonial movement founded by the Paiute religious leader Wovoka. Participants did a simple dance while wearing a shirt to protect themselves from gunfire. The Ghost Dance promised to remove settlers from society and bring back the buffalo. It became popular among the Lakota in 1890.[1]
