Ibrahim al-Nablusi was a Palestinian resistance fighter and martyr from Nablus, Palestine.
Life[edit | edit source]
Ibrahim al-Nablusi was born on 19 October 2003 in Nablus, Palestine. His birth and early childhood coincided with the Zionist Entity assault on his home city during the Second Intifada.[1]
As a child he was nicknamed 'Nimrood', after the figure in Abrahamic religions known as 'Nimrod' in English, for his rebellious spirit.[1]
He joined the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades at a young age and quickly became a senior commander in the organization. His exploits earned him the name 'the lion of Nablus'. He survived numerous assassination attempts by the Zionist Entity, including one in July 2022 in which the occupation forces murdered two Palestinians: Muhamad Azizi and Abdul Raham Sobh.[1][1]
Al-Nablusi was under surveillance by the occupation forces, and early on 9 October 2022 they surrounded the house in the eastern neighborhood of the Old City of Nablus where he had spent the night. They ordered him to hand himself in. He refused, and along with Hussein Taha and Islam Subuh, al-Nablusi barricaded himself into the house. The occupation forces opened fire, and he and his comrades fired back. The Zionist Entity fired rockets into the house, destroying it and murdering all three inside.[2]
Before he died he recorded a message:
"I love you so much … I've been martyred … Please take care of our homeland after me … and my will to you is never put down the rifle … with your honour … I am currently cornered and I am going to be martyred."[2]
Ibrahim al-Nablusi was just 18 years old when he was martyred. His comrade Islam Subuh was 32, while Hussein Taha was just 16 years old.[1]
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Al-Nablusi was mourned throughout West Bank and Palestine after his assassination by the Zionist forces.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine stated the assassination "has emphasised the failure of the occupation." The Islamic Resistance Movement spokesman Hazem Qassem praised the heroism of the martyrs. Fatah spokesman Munther al-Hayek said in a statement, "This cowardly crime of assassination will only increase our people’s determination to continue the confrontations to end the occupation, and establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital."[3]
The Lions' Den, a Palestinian resistance group based in Nablus, honored his nicknamed.[4]
The Nablus Brigade of the Al-Quds Brigade named a new explosive device the 'Nablusi 1' after him.[5]
He was chosen as the Tehran Times Man of the Year for the Iranian calendar year of 1401.[6]
His mother said about him, “They are mistaken if they think they killed Ibrahim. Everyone is Ibrahim.”[1]
