Equatorial Guinea, officially the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, is an African liberal country bordered by Gabon, and Cameroon.

History[edit | edit source]

Spanish colonial rule[edit | edit source]

Equatorial Guinea declared independence from Spain in 1968.[1]

Independence[edit | edit source]

Francisco Macías Nguema ruled from independence up until the 1979 coup in which he was killed by his nephew Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. Obiang has ruled Equatorial Guinea ever since the 1979 coup with US backing, despite the regimes numerous human rights violations.[1]
