Gonzalo Thought is Marxism-Leninism-Maoism applied to the material conditions of Peru.[1] Gonzalo Thought, along with Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, were both coined by Chairman Abimael Guzmán (better known as his nom de guerra, Chairman Gonzalo). Gonzalo Thought is the guiding form of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism used by the Communist Party of Peru – Shining Path. He believed that he had 'synthesized' Maoism, that Mao Zedong had advanced Marxism-Leninism to a new stage, thus 'Maoism'; however, this was never Mao Zedong's nor the People's Republic of China's official stance.
