Indentured servitude is a form of unpaid labor that's similar to slavery but last for a set period of time instead of for life. In practice, many indentured servants died before their term of servitude ended. The reasons why people would be forced into Indentured Servitude would be alleged compensation, debt repayment or in some instances repayment of the servant debts. Indentured Servitude was practiced in British America, Barbados, British Raj (1858–1947) , Oceania, Africa as these countries were formerly parts of the British Empire before they declared their independence.
