The Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) was a fascist[1] separatist organization in Yugoslavia active during the 1990s. It attacked Serbs and anti-separatist Albanians. The majority of its victims in Kosovo between 1996 and 1998 were ethnic Albanians. As late as 1998, the USA publicly considered it a terrorist organization while secretly sending it weapons. The KLA also received supplies, weapons, and training from Germany, Albania, and Islamic fundamentalist organizations.[2]

Ideology

The KLA wanted to separate Kosovo from Yugoslavia and attach it to a "Greater Albania" that included parts of Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Greece.[2]

Infighting

By May 2000, Hashim Thaçi had ordered the executions of at least 12 other KLA commanders.[2]
