Luna Oi is a Vietnamese nationalist, self-proclaimed "Marxist-Leninist" content creator who is prominent on YouTube. She promotes socialist education from a Vietnamese perspective in the English language.
She's covered the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam[1], the Indian farmers' protest movement,[2] among many other topics. She has also appeared on the Deprogram podcast.[3]
Controversies
Anti-Stalin Rhetoric
Luna Oi claims that Joseph Stalin never synthesised Marxism-Leninism, and that Marxism-Leninism existed within Ho Chi Minh as well.[4] Luna Oi also claims that Stalin despised Ho Chi Minh.[5] Even outright claiming that Stalin thought that Ho Chi Minh was working for the CIA.[6]
Anarchist Rhetoric
Luna Oi claims that the division between Anarchism and Marxism is miscommunication, and claims that it is there to divide the left.[7] Luna Oi also claims that what she really wants is Anarchism, and that flat hierarchies will fix everything.[8]
Vietnamese Nationalism
Luna Oi has constantly defended accusations against Vietnam. One of these include defending the Vietnamese Occupation of Cambodia, calling it necessary.[9] Luna Oi also called Deng Xiaoping a monster, for supposedly causing the Tiananmen Square Protests.[10]
Lack of ability to take in criticism
Luna Oi has several times denounced anyone critiquing her as either a Western Leftist and an Ultra, despite if the criticism is valid or not.
