Every year, on either New Year's Eve or New Years Day, the president of the People's Republic of China makes an address to China and to the world.

These have happened since January 2000.

2021

Xi Jinping gave the 2021 New Year Address on 2020 December 31st.

The accomplishments made throughout 2020 that he listed were:

  • Fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, and finishing the year with the strongest GDP growth in the world
  • Completing the 13th Five Year Plan and formulating the 14th Five Year Plan
  • Tianwen-1 (Mars mission)
  • Chang'e 5 (Lunar probe)
  • Fendouzhe (deep-sea manned submersible)
  • Construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port
  • Minimizing damage of severe flooding
  • Establishing a Moderately Prosperous Society in all respects
  • Decisive success in eradicating extreme poverty[1]

2020

Xi Jinping gave the 2020 New Year Address on 2019 December 31st.

The accomplishments made throughout 2019 that he listed were:

  • Coordinated development in the following regions:
    • Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region
    • the Yangtze River Economic Belt
    • the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area
    • and the Yangtze River Delta
  • Ecological protection in the Yellow River basin
  • Lifting 340 impoverished counties and more than 10 million people out of poverty
  • Chang'e-4 (lunar probe)
  • Long March-5 Y3 rocket
  • Xuelong 2 icebreaker's maiden voyage to the Antarctic
  • BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (geospacial satellite system equivalent to GPS and SatNav)
  • 5G technology
  • Beijing Daxing International Airport[2]
