The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (Spanish: Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela, PSUV) is a democratic socialist political party which has been the ruling party of Venezuela since 2010. It was formed from the merger of some of the various leftist political movements, organizations and social forces that supported Hugo Chávez and the Bolivarian Revolution. Chávez's original party the Fifth Republic Movement was thus dissolved. PSUV is now the largest political party in Venezuela, as well as the 11th largest in the world, with more than 7 million active members as of 2014.
At the 2015 parliamentary election, the PSUV lost its majority in the National Assembly for the first time since the unicameral legislature's creation in 2000 against the Democratic Unity Roundtable, winning 55 out of the National Assembly's 167 seats. In the 2020 elections however, amid a widespread opposition boycott, they won back a supermajority of the chamber.
