Vigilantism is a form of law enforcement organized by private vigilantes instead of the state.[1]

Role in settler colonialism

Vigilantes play a significant role in defending settler colonialism from indigenous resistance. Mainstream settler culture glorifies settler vigilantes and portrays them as defending themselves from native aggression.[1]
