Critical support for Russia

Hello comrade and welcome onto Prolewiki!

To answer your question regarding our critical support of Russia, this was written before the conflict. We understand the Russian Federation to be on the periphery and while not a complete victim of imperialism, they are still subordinate to the imperialist order and not inside of it as a driving force.

We see Russia active in Syria for example, defending against NATO aggression.

The invasion of Ukraine has polarised opinions a bit, although we've remained mostly steadfast on Prolewiki, and in my opinion the Russo-Ukrainian conflict cannot be considered an imperialist conflict. Of course the RF will take resources and has material things to gain from annexing the Donbass oblasts (huge manufacturing region), but the first driver of the war was NATO encroaching right on their border. The writing was on the wall and it was clear post-2014 that Ukraine did not come to their decision to join NATO by themselves but through the US-puppet Zelensky (proven right by the fact that the US had no intention of letting Ukraine join NATO but kept telling Zelensky to keep it up).

With news coming out that the Minsk agreements -- which Russia was heavily involved in as a mediator to see them coming to fruition -- were merely a bid for time to bring Ukraine up to speed for a future confrontation with Russia, I think this analysis has been proven right.

In this way the conflict in Ukraine is a proxy conflict, and in fact I think it's becoming clearer and clearer that the current UA army is mostly NATO soldiers at this point. But it's a proxy conflict _against_ Russia, not _involving_ Russia like we would have seen during the Cold War. In this analysis Russia is defending itself against NATO against a very possible balkanisation of the Russian Federation.
