Fiji, officially the Republic of Fiji, is a country in Oceania.
History[edit | edit source]
In 1982, Prime Minister Kamisese Mara banned ships carrying nuclear weapons from using Fijian ports. He reversed the policy a year later under pressure from the USA. Timoci Bavadra of the Labour Party took office in April 1987 and reintroduced the anti-nuclear policy. Lt. Col. Sitiveni Rabuka led a CIA and NED-backed coup against Bavadra a month after he took office and allowed the Statesian navy back into the country.[1]
