James Earl Carter (born October 1, 1924) was a liberal politician who served as the 39th president of the USA. He is most well-known for signing the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT II).
Foreign interventions[edit | edit source]
In 1977, Carter airlifted Moroccan troops to Zaire (now the DR Congo) to crush a rebellion against the dictator Mobutu Sese Seko.[1]
