Niko Jerković (1949/1950 – 8 April 1996) was a Croatian air traffic controller. On 3 April 1996, Croatian intelligence services paid him to down the plane of U.S. Commerce Secretary Ron Brown by disabling a beacon on Kolocep Island and broadcasting a false signal at the same 318 kHz frequency as the real beacon. The transmitter led the pilots to fly into Sveti Ivan, a mountain near the Dubrovnik airport.[1]

Death[edit | edit source]

Jerković was found dead on 8 April from a gunshot in the chest. He died before he could be questioned about the crash. Miroslav Tuđman, the son of Croatian fascist leader Franjo Tuđman, led the investigation that claimed that Jerković died from suicide.[1]
